Creating a Unique Experience at Shell Café
As part of the completely revamped Shell Café concept, Shell has introduced its first fully integrated play corner. Recognising that customers charging their electric vehicles often have longer waiting times, Shell aims to provide an enhanced experience for these visitors. By incorporating improved dining concepts and waiting areas, along with a dedicated play concept, Shell is catering to families with young children, for whom waiting can be a challenge.
The new play corner and seating area create a welcoming environment for all visitors. When children play peacefully, it fosters harmony within the shop, ensuring an enjoyable experience for everyone during their wait.
Play@IKC at Shell Café
Shell’s request was to create a vandalism-proof design that seamlessly blends into the brand identity of the Shell Café concept. The design had to be interesting for children while remaining visually understated, considering the presence of business travellers and customers without children. The challenge was to create a play corner that complements the ambiance while offering younger guests a fun and interactive experience.
IKC delivered a Play@IKC solution with fully customised colours and graphics in the style of Shell Café. The design provides children with a space to move and explore, featuring playful elements such as a viewing dome and various wall games. The layout was carefully planned so that parents can easily supervise their children while enjoying their food or drinks. With a secure enclosure and a single entrance/exit, parents can instantly see if their child is entering or leaving.
The design also considers the convenience of the staff in terms of maintenance and cleaning. With no loose parts in the play concept, it’s effortless to keep the area tidy and safe. No more cleaning up crayons or scattered toys—saving staff time while ensuring a safe environment for the children. Additionally, two integrated display shelves with children’s toys add functionality and create a playful atmosphere that captures children’s attention.
Dynamic and Fun Play
The Play@IKC concept is designed to accommodate various IKC products that can be fully customised to fit any theme or brand. Whether you prefer a space, forest, or fairytale theme, the possibilities are endless.
For this Shell Play@IKC, we included an Activity Wall on the inside to offer children extra challenges while playing. Several wall games, such as Northern Lights, Animal Fusion, and Into the Woods, were installed. A Delta Interactive 21 inch screen was also added, featuring Shell’s logo in the software.
